ABOUT US
Outline Global is reshaping how regulated industries manage compliance and environmental performance. We deliver premium imagery, LiDAR, and AI‑driven insights that help organisations operate more efficiently, sustainably and transparently.
We are entering a new growth phase, moving from mostly project-based work to long-term partnerships and delivery programs with some of Australia’s largest enterprises. This is your chance to be part of that journey.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced LiDAR specialist to join our dynamic team undertaking our end-to-end LiDAR processing, quality assurance and delivery workflows. This role is critical to ensuring that our national airborne survey programs deliver consistently accurate, high-quality datasets aligned to Australian and international standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake LiDAR processing workflows from raw data ingest to final classified outputs and derived products.
- Ensuring classification standards are met (e.g., ICSM, client-specific specifications).
- Manage and refine QA/QC processes, ensuring precision, consistency and compliance across all datasets.
- Conduct technical reviews of point clouds, intensity data, trajectory files, and calibration/boresight results.
- Work with internal technical teams to optimise processing pipelines, automation, and performance.
- Maintain governance over Ground Control Points (GCPs), checkpoints, and associated metadata.
- Implementation of best practices for LiDAR data management, large dataset handling and data integrity (e.g., managing terabyte-scale LiDAR datasets, version control, and backups).
- Collaborate with survey partners to ensure capture quality aligns with survey best practices and project requirements.
- Provide expert advice on flight planning impacts, sensor capability, accuracy thresholds, and project feasibility.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and R&D initiatives across LiDAR, AI/ML, and automated workflows.
ABOUT YOU
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Minimum 3+ years experience in LiDAR processing, classification, and QC.
- Strong understanding of Australian survey standards, ICSM/ANZLIC specifications, and category classifications.
- Proven ability to interpret and manage survey-grade LiDAR data, including:
- Trajectory processing
- Strip alignment and boresight adjustments
- Point cloud calibration
- Noise filtering and classification modelling
- Hydro-flattening and breakline integration for topographic LiDAR workflows.
- Accuracy reporting and compliance documentation (producing QA reports, accuracy summaries, and metadata for clients).
- Solid knowledge of ground survey practices, including GCP/GPS survey quality, budgets, and metadata requirements.
- Demonstrated experience ensuring GCP governance and traceability from field collection to final accuracy reporting.
- Advanced capability with LiDAR software (e.g. TerraScan, LAStools, Global Mapper, stripalign, RiPROCESS, POSPac).
- Exceptional attention to detail with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Strong communication skills for cross-team coordination and client engagement.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable
- Experience with AI/ML-driven classification or automated QC workflows.
- Experience in aerial survey operations and planning.
- Knowledge of Australian vertical datums and geodetic frameworks (AHD, AUSGeoid, GDA2020, ellipsoidal heights).
- Experience with PDAL and ability to script in Python or similar for workflow automation.
We are looking for a self-motivated team player with a strong desire to learn, share knowledge and contribute to the growth of Outline Global. We value people who can both work independently and successfully collaborate with others to deliver results.
This role offers a degree of workplace flexibility in terms of a combination of working between home and the office.
